One cheek a little fuller, one brow a little higher, a smile that pulls to one side, or features that just don't seem to fit together the way you'd like. At Skin Space in Massapequa, we help clients across Long Island bring their features into better balance with small, precise adjustments that look like a natural version of you.

What facial balancing is
No face is perfectly symmetrical, and that's normal.
Every face has some natural asymmetry. One eye may sit slightly higher, one side of the jaw may be stronger, or one cheek may be a little fuller. Most of the time no one notices. But sometimes a difference stands out to you in photos or the mirror, or your features simply don't feel in proportion with each other.
Facial balancing uses small, targeted treatments to improve harmony between features and between the two sides of the face. The aim isn't perfect symmetry, which looks unnatural. It's a more balanced face that still looks like yours.
Side-to-side asymmetry
Differences in cheek fullness, brow height or jaw shape between the left and right sides.
Proportion
Features that feel out of balance with each other, such as a small chin with a prominent nose.
Movement asymmetry
A smile, brow or jaw that moves more on one side than the other.
Many balancing plans include specific areas covered on their own pages: hollow cheeks, weak or recessed chin, uneven lips and flattened facial contours.
What causes it
Some differences are built in; others develop over time.
Faces develop slightly differently on each side, and everyday habits and aging can make those differences more noticeable.
- Natural development, since the two sides of the face never grow identically.
- Uneven volume loss, with one side losing fat or bone faster than the other.
- Chewing and sleeping habits, like favoring one side when you chew or sleeping on the same side every night.
- Dental and jaw differences, such as missing teeth, bite issues or a stronger jaw muscle on one side.
- Past injury or surgery, which can change the shape or movement of part of the face.
- Previous filler that has settled unevenly or moved over time.

What to expect at Skin Space
From your first visit in Massapequa to a more balanced face.
Detailed assessment
We look at your face from multiple angles, at rest and while you talk and smile, and often take photos to compare both sides.
A conservative plan
Your provider prioritizes the few changes that will make the biggest difference, rather than treating everything at once.
Treatment
Most balancing is done in one or two visits, with filler adjusted carefully and wrinkle relaxers given time to take effect.
Review
We compare before and after photos at a follow-up and make small refinements if needed.
Supporting balance at home
Small habits that affect symmetry over time.
- Chew on both sides rather than favoring one.
- Switch sleeping sides, or sleep on your back, to avoid pressing the same side of your face every night.
- Keep up with dental care, since missing teeth and bite issues can affect facial shape.
- Avoid pressing on treated areas for a few days after filler.
- Wear sunscreen daily to protect skin evenly across the face.
When to check with your doctor
New asymmetry can be a medical warning sign.
Get medical care if you notice:
- Sudden drooping or weakness on one side of the face, slurred speech or arm weakness. Call 911 immediately
- New one-sided facial drooping or trouble closing one eye, even without other symptoms
- A new lump, swelling or change in shape on one side of the face or jaw
- Jaw pain, clicking or a change in your bite
- Asymmetry after an injury, which may need imaging
After any filler or Radiesse treatment, get emergency care right away for severe pain, skin that turns pale or dusky, or any change in your vision. Every Skin Space consultation includes a review of your health history so we can choose treatments that are safe for you.
Common questions
Is it normal for my face to be uneven?
Yes. Almost everyone has some facial asymmetry. Balancing focuses on differences that bother you, not on making both sides identical.
What is facial balancing?
It's an approach that looks at the face as a whole and uses small adjustments to improve harmony between features and between the two sides.
Can filler fix an uneven face?
It can help with many volume-related differences, like one fuller cheek or an uneven lip. Movement differences often respond better to wrinkle relaxers.
My previous filler looks uneven. Can you help?
Often, yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved and the area rebalanced. We'll assess what's there before recommending next steps.
Will I look different?
You should look like a more balanced version of yourself. Our approach is subtle, and most people simply notice you look refreshed.
